Todd McShay doesn’t care about football’s most important position, he wants the best football player on his team. The ESPN draft analyst made that abundantly clear on Wednesday when he spoke to Ryen Russillo.

The ESPN draft analyst joined The Russillo Show to talk about college football and some of the top prospects for the 2018 draft. McShay is really high on Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.

“If I had the first pick in a college football draft, I would take Saquon Barkley…over any of the quarterbacks,” he said on Wednesday.

Considering how much emphasis is placed on the quarterback position, that’s a pretty strong statement by McShay. It’s also quite a compliment to Barkley and his unbelievable talent.

Barkley has already been impressive through the first two weeks of the season, racking up 260 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries. He’s also caught seven passes for 99 yards and a score in Penn State’s 2-0 start.

The versatile back has been regarded as the best running back in the country and is considered the B1G’s best Heisman candidate.

McShay doesn’t have a pick in the NFL Draft, but it’ll be interesting to see if teams take the analyst’s advice and draft Barkley high if he decides to forego his senior season in Happy Valley.
