Tom Allen is indeed out as Indiana’s head coach, concluding a seven-year run for Allen in Bloomington. The Hoosiers experienced a pair of winning seasons under his watch, but the recent history of Allen’s tenure trended severely down.
After Sunday morning reports of Allen being fired, Indiana AD Scott Dolson confirmed the move in a statement:
“After continued evaluation of our entire football program, I have determined that we have lost momentum and that a change in leadership is necessary at this time. I want to thank Tom for all of the contributions he has made to IU in his seven years leading our program. His passion, character and class made a positive impact on our student-athletes. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
As a part of Allen’s firing, Dolson revealed the two parties have agreed to a negotiated contract settlement. The head coach was originally owed a buyout north of $20 million, but the two sides reached an agreement well below that.
With the settlement, Allen will receive two equal installments of $7.75 million, bringing his buyout figure to $15.5 million overall. Now, the Hoosiers will begin their search for the next head coach as the program heads into 2024 and the new-look era of the B1G.
