Now just one win shy of bowl eligibility, the Indiana Hoosiers moved to 5-2 by beating the Maryland Terrapins, 34-28, on Saturday in College Park.
There was some troubling news for Indiana and head coach Tom Allen, however, as redshirt freshman quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was forced to leave the victory in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury.
Following the game, Allen offered this on Penix’s status, via Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star:
Tom Allen says Michael Penix will be evaluated more tomorrow, IU will know more then. Would not specify what the issue is, other than to say that it’s not related to the previous shoulder injury. Doesn’t think it’s long term issue. #iufb

The final sentence of Osterman’s Tweet is encouraging news. When healthy, Penix has flashed the ability to be one of the B1G’s best dual-threat quarterbacks.
Looking to clinch a postseason berth, Indiana will travel to Lincoln to battle Nebraska (4-3) on October 26.
Their fourth loss in the last five games, Maryland faces No. 20 Minnesota (7-0) on Saturday in Minneapolis.
