Tom Brady broke another record this weekend.
One of Brady’s rookie cards sold for $2.25 million on Friday — the most ever for any football card.
The previous record-holder was a very similar card. Both were a Tom Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket auto /99. The one that sold this weekend was graded slightly higher (8.5) than the previous record of $1.32 million (8).
The sale took place at Lelands Auctions
“I wasn’t shocked [by the price], but I was certainly surprised,” Lelands president Mike Heffner told ESPN. “I know the market is headed upward, especially with rare and desirable cards such as that one, but I didn’t really anticipate it. I had an inkling just feeling the performance of the other cards over the past month, it was certainly a possibility but these modern cards are definitely for real.”

The price is likely a combination of multiple factors. Tom Brady’s seventh Super Bowl victory earlier this year is certainly one of them, but the sports card market has seen a sharp increase during the pandemic.
The buyer of this card chose to remain anonymous.
