Tom Herman reportedly made a drastic change after lousy 1st quarter vs. Maryland

It sounds like Maryland shocked the Longhorns with a fast start in the season opener.
The Terrapins started quick, racing out to a 24-7 lead in the second quarter. Freshman WR Jeshaun Jones had a hand in all three Maryland touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, the Terrapins defense had the Texas offense tied down.
The Longhorns did score a touchdown on their second drive of the game, but five of their first six drives of the season resulted in punts. That is simply not going to cut it offensively against any opponent.
According to UT reporter Anwar Richardson, the slow start resulted in Tom Herman becoming more active in the offensive play-calling for the Longhorns. It is still unclear what Herman’s exact involvement was but something appeared to change. Texas scored two touchdowns before halftime to keep the game close and put pressure on Maryland.
In the end, Texas still came up short with just seven points scored after the break. Now it will be interesting to see if Herman increases his involvement with the offense moving forward.
