Michigan State announced Tuesday that shooting guard Joshua Langford has re-injured his foot and will be out until at least January. Langford missed a big portion of last season with the same injury.

Spartans men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo broke the news in an emotional press conference.

“The kid has been the most selfless, greatest attitude, committed kid,” Izzo said. “He didn’t miss a practice last year. He didn’t miss a trip. The setback (that) has been for the last two seasons, to be honest with you, it’s one of those weird things that breaks my heart.”

Izzo says Langford will be re-evaluated in January.

Langford averaged 9.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in his first two seasons with the Spartans. As a sophomore, he posted 11.7 points and 1.5 assists per contest.

Last year, he averaged 15.0 points and 2.3 assists, but he only played in 13 games because of his foot injury.

This is a real shame for Langford, but a big blow for Michigan State as well. The Spartans have national championship expectations in 2019-20, and they will be without one of their best players until at least the middle of the season.
