Tom Izzo, Joshua Langford respond to Michigan State’s ‘Total breakdown’ in blowout loss to Iowa

Iowa defeated Michigan State 88-58 on Saturday afternoon, handing the Spartans another brutal loss in a season that’s been full of them.
This game was never really in doubt, as Iowa claimed a double-digit lead with 13:20 left in the first half. The Hawkeyes’ advantage never fell below 10 points again, and they led by more than 20 points for most of the second half. National Player of the Year candidate Luka Garza played just 23 minutes in the win.
After the game, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo called it a “total breakdown” and accepted responsibility.

“Everybody slumps a little bit when you’re getting your butts kicked,” Izzo said.
Michigan State star Joshua Langford also commented on the Spartans’ slump. Michigan State has lost four of its last six games since returning from a 20-day COVID-19 hiatus.
“This is not the time to be throwing in the towel,” Langford said after the game. “Nobody is giving up. That’s not what we do at Michigan State.”
There’s still time to make up ground, but Michigan State currently looks like a longshot to make the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans are 4-8 in Big Ten play and are currently ranked No. 70 nationally according to KenPom.
Michigan State’s next game is on Tuesday vs. Purdue.
