Tom Izzo praises game experience in San Diego, loved every part ‘except for the outcome’

Tom Izzo and Michigan State made the trip west for the Armed Forces Classic last week. That matchup against No. 2 Gonzaga went down to the wire with the Spartans falling by one point against the Bulldogs.
Despite the loss, it was a strong performance by Michigan State. However, it will sting for a while after Izzo’s squad held a 7-point lead at the break.
Speaking Monday, Izzo admitted the experience was a great one for his team with everything “except the outcome.” He also called it a “privilege and an honor” for the Spartans to compete in the Armed Forces Classic.
Tom Izzo says “Everything was great in San Diego except for the outcome of the game.” Says MSU found a way to lose a game it should have won. “We lost to a very good team, and I found out a lot about my team.”

Izzo says the Champions Classic “is a privilege and an honor” to play in for MSU. “I think it’s a night of college basketball that brings all these teams together. They’ve earned the right to be there over 100 years, we’ve earned the right to be there over 20.”

As for what he learned from his team in the game, Izzo said he saw his team competing against the No. 2 team in the country. If the Spartans keep that up, Izzo believes the team will “win our share of games” this season.
Izzo on what he learned most about his team vs. Gonzaga: “We competed … if we compete like that we’ll win our share of games.”
