Head coach Tom Izzo and Michigan State lost a lough one to Illinois Friday night, 75-66. Michigan State, which had won 7 in a row, broke down defensively in the final minutes and couldn’t get enough from Mady Sissoko against Illinois’ Dain Dainja.

Izzo isn’t exactly making excuses, but he did sound off on the B1G’s scheduling Friday night following the game. The Spartans have played 4 games in 10 days and are about to play 5 games in 13 days Monday as Michigan State hosts Purdue.

“I’m a little disappointed, I might as well be controversial. I don’t think this way we’re condensing this schedule…the NCAA, everybody’s so worried about student-athlete welfare and we’re playing, now it’ll be four games in 10 days or something like that,” Izzo said. “It’s hard. This is odd, it’s not been this way most of my career in the Big Ten. I don’t like it for anybody.”

The Spartans are sitting at 12-5 on the season right now, lacking any true strong wins as of mid-January. Obviously, there’s a chance to change that Monday against the Boilermakers.
