Tommy Eichenberg was 1 of the many Ohio State players who got interviewed on Wednesday. He gave fans some things to expect on Saturday per Chase Brown of Eleven Warriors.

Ohio State’s defense was not up to par last season. It let up the 9th-most yards per game (366.6) in the B1G, and that won’t be good enough this time around. He was asked about what fans should be looking for from the Buckeye defense in the season opener.

“Relentless effort,” said Eichenberg. “No matter what, relentless effort.”

The defense is going to need to exert a lot of effort if they want to shut down Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer. There are lot of ways that Mayer can effect a football game, mainly because of how versatile he is, according to Eichenberg.

“He’s a good route runner and a good blocker, too,” said Eichenberg. “He adds to the run game and is a threat passing. You never know what you’ll get (with him).”

Eichenberg and the Ohio State defense will have their chance to prove if Jim Knowles is the answer to all their problems.
