Tony Petitti addresses SEC’s claim to be the top football league in the nation

Tony Petitti and the rest of the B1G are in Las Vegas this week for the B1G Media Days, where players, coaches and the commissioner are talking to the media about the upcoming season. It’s especially significant this season as the B1G has experienced a lot of success recently, as Michigan and Ohio State have won the national championship in the last 2 seasons.

During the offseason, the SEC handed out pamphlets to the media at the spring meetings that said it was the best conference in college football. Petitti was asked about his thoughts on that, and he responded by telling the media the results of the conference speak for themselves.

“I’m not going to comment on where any one conference is,” Petitti said. “We stand by what we do in the Big Ten. I think the national results have shown that the past couple of seasons… We stand by how much tougher our league has gotten. Then, you throw in the travel, how well our schools protect their home fields, I think that speaks for itself.”

There is a debate about all of the Power 4 conferences and where they rank, but one thing that is clear is nobody has enjoyed as much success as the B1G the last 2 seasons. First, Michigan knocked off the Washington Huskies in the national title two years ago.

Last year, the CFP moved from 4 teams all the way to 12. No conference had more teams than the B1G in the CFP last season, as Indiana, Penn State, Oregon and eventual national champion Ohio State all made the CFP.

This upcoming season figures to see the B1G once again among the nation’s best as it guns for a third consecutive national champion from the conference. While the debate of ‘which conference is the best’ will continue, the B1G simply can sit back and let the results do the talking.
