What does it really mean to be ranked in the top 25?
Well, it puts a target on your back. That’s one thing.
Although, if you’re ranked in the top 5, there might as well be a bullseye on your back. But then again, if you’re ranked that highly, there’s likely a reason.

- Alabama
- Clemson
- Georgia
- Wisconsin
- Ohio State
These teams were favored by quite a bit going into the opening weekend. In fact, altogether, the five teams were favored by a combined 187.5 points.
The outcome?
They won by a combined 210 points.
The Death of Parity continues. The top five in the AP poll were favored by a combined 187.5 points. They won by a combined 210 points (42-point average).

Alabama took care of Louisville, while Clemson and Georgia beat up on Furman and Austin Peay — as they should have. Wisconsin also had no issues dismantling Western Kentucky Friday night and Ohio State threw up 77 points on a Power 5 opponent.
No biggy.
The top 5 teams in college football won’t of course each go undefeated this season. For one, Georgia could play Alabama. Same with Wisconsin and Ohio State.
But Week 1 proved something. The elite teams in the sport aren’t going anywhere.
