The highest-ranked football recruit from the state of Minnesota won’t be suiting up for the Golden Gophers. In fact, he’s decided not to play in the B1G at all.
Wednesday morning, 6-foot-5, 307-pound offensive lineman Lucas Heyer gave his verbal pledge to Stanford. The St. Paul, Minnesota native is a member of the 2022 recruiting class and is listed as one of the Top 350 overall players in the cycle.

Per the 247Sports Composite, Heyer ranks as the No. 34 offensive tackle and the No. 1 player from Minnesota. He was a two-way player during the 2020 campaign, playing both left tackle on the offensive line and defensive tackle.
A total of 16 programs offered Heyer, including Minnesota. He picked Stanford over Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Penn State out of the B1G. Other offers came from Arizona State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and TCU.
Heyer recently took official visits to Stanford, Minnesota, Michigan and Northwestern.
Thanks to a busy June, Minnesota already has 13 players committed to the 2022 recruiting class. The Golden Gophers own the fifth-best class in the B1G and rank No. 22 nationally.
