The transfer portal has been really active since the conclusion of the 2020-21 college basketball season. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein recently reported on some of the staggering numbers.
Per Rothstein, a total of 1,663 college basketball players entered the NCAA transfer portal (as of Sunday, June 13). That’s an incredibly high number, although circumstances related to the pandemic may have helped inflate that number during the offseason.
The concerning part of that number? Per Rothstein, 580 student-athletes have yet to find a new school. That means over 35% of the players who entered the portal are still looking at options as we enter the summer months.

With official visits opening back up, those student-athletes yet to land with a new program might be able to take trips to see what campuses are like before making a decision. In that case, it would be a smart way to move forward with their college careers.
Hopefully, all those who entered the portal are able to find a suitable destination and continue playing college basketball in the 2021-22 season.
