Taulia Tagovailoa doesn’t mind the comparisons.

The sophomore quarterback who transferred to Maryland this offseason is off to a nice start for his Terps career. After throwing for less than 100 yards with three interceptions in a loss to Northwestern, Tagovailoa has responded with two brilliantly efficient outings.

In his past two games, Tagovailoa has thrown for six touchdowns and added two rushing touchdowns in the win over Minnesota. It would be an especially impressive stretch for most quarterbacks. However, Tagovailoa is not most quarterbacks.

As fans are now well aware, Taulia is the younger brother to Tua Tagovailoa, the star Alabama quarterback who is now starting to light up the NFL as a rookie. With Tua around, Taulia knows the comparisons are bound to come, but he is not worried about the “little brother” comments:

“My family’s everything to me, I represent my last name everywhere I go,” said Taulia during a segment for BTN. “Me and Tua – the comparisons, everything like that – I feel like we’re never going to get away from that because that’s my brother, so people are always going to try and compare us.

“Everything with ‘Tua’s little brother,’ I don’t mind that at all. That’s my big brother.”

After seeing Maryland’s Week 4 game get canceled due to COVID, Tagovailoa and the Terps are hoping for a quick return to action this weekend. Should the team be cleared to play, Tagovailoa will face a Michigan State defense that has struggled at times this season.

For now, Saturday’s kickoff is scheduled for 12 pm EST.
