Turner Gill joins Arkansas football staff

Former Husker quarterback and Liberty head coach Turner Gill is headed to the SEC.
On Thursday, Arkansas announced that head coach Chad Morris has added Gill to the Razorbacks’ staff, where he’ll serve as the Executive Director of Student-Athlete and Staff Development. Gill will help to provide guidance and leadership for student-athletes, as well as coaches.

Gill will provide direct oversight for football student-athlete programming designed to foster leadership, personal accountability, social development, academic direction, self-identity and awareness along with emotional intelligence. He will also provide guidance and development to the coaching and support staffs while engaging the Arkansas community and Razorbacks football alumni.
Gill comes to Arkansas after spending the last seven seasons as the head coach at Liberty (2012-18). He compiled a 47-35 record with the Flames and never had a losing record. He guided the program to one FCS Playoff appearance. Gill was also the head coach as Liberty transitioned from FCS to FBS.
After the 2018 season, Gill stepped away from the job at Liberty due to health concerns involving his wife.
“Adding someone with Turner’s experience and knowledge to our staff is going to provide a tremendous boost for our student-athletes and our staff,” Morris said. “From his time as a player at Nebraska to working in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers to serving as a head coach, he has so much to offer our athletes, coaches and staff. We’re excited for him to be a Razorback and have him help build our culture.”
Prior to his seven-year run at Liberty, Gill was the head coach at Buffalo for four seasons (2006-09) and Kansas for two years (2010-11). In 13 seasons, Gill won 72 games as a head coach.
Gill played his college football at Nebraska, where he was a quarterback for the Huskers from 1980-83 under legendary head coach Tom Osborne.
