Speed kills.
And it’s pretty clear that’s the reason why Ohio State’s offense has been so explosive over the last several years. If you didn’t see it on the field, you certainly saw it at the NFL Combine over the weekend.
Former Buckeye receivers Parris Campbell and Terry McLaurin posted two of the fastest overall 40-yard dash times at the NFL Combine over the weekend. Campbell’s 4.31 time ranked third overall and McLaurin’s 4.35 came in seventh overall. No wonder defenders had trouble keeping up with those guys.
Fastest 40s, 2019 #NFLCombine:
Zedrick Woods, @OleMissFB, 4.29
Jamel Dean, @AuburnFootball, 4.30
Parris Campbell, @OhioStateFB, 4.31
Andrew Isabella, @UMassFootball , 4.31
Mecole Hardman, @FootballUGA, 4.33
D.K. Metcalf, @OleMissFB, 4.33
Terry McLaurin, @OhioStateFB, 4.35— NFL Draft (@NFLDraft) March 5, 2019
Unfortunately for Ohio State, star defensive back Kendall Sheffield wasn’t able to take part in the drill due to a partially torn left pec sustained on the bench press. Based on reports out of Indianapolis, he had been clocked in the 4.2 range and would’ve likely ranked in the top five spots, at worst.
Still, the results from the NFL Combine just go to show that speed does matter in both college and professional football. And Ohio State has an awful lot of it.
