Two Idaho football players have been suspended for the season opener against Penn State on Aug. 31, head coach Paul Petrino said in a statement recently.
According to Vandal Nation, linebacker Christian Elliss and tight end Dalton Cash were arrested for allegedly attempting to steal over $130 of food from a Walmart located in Moscow, Idaho. Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Petrino announced the suspensions of both players.
“We make it very clear that the actions of our student-athletes reflect on more than just themselves and when those actions are not in line with our program’s expectations, there will be consequences,” Petrino said in a statement. “Christian and Dalton made a poor decision and they will both be suspended for the first game of the 2019 season.”
Elliss was the top defender for the Vandals a year ago, totaling 81 tackles, including four for loss. He was a third-team All-Big Sky selection for a team that finished 4-7.
Penn State will host Idaho on Aug. 31 at Beaver Stadium. Kickoff time and broadcast information is still unannounced. The matchup between the two will serve as the season opener for both teams.
