Tyson Walker led Michigan State in scoring and started all 34 games for Tom Izzo’s squad this past season. On Monday, he announced a major decision for the 2023-24 season.
In a post on Instagram, Walker announced he’s coming back next season to utilize his extra year of eligibility. That is a major boost for the Spartans after a run to the Sweet 16 this past season.

This past season, Walker averaged 14.8 points per game to go with 2.9 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals while shooting 42% from 3-point range. He took big steps forward in scoring with AJ Hoggard taking the big lead at point guard for the Spartans.
Walker had a flare for the dramatic and was a big-game performer for Michigan State throughout the season. He delivered 23 points in the NCAA Tournament upset of Marquette and a pair of 30-point games against Iowa and Purdue.
Tyson Walker’s impact for 2023-24 season
After a couple of down seasons in terms of expectations, East Lansing is bound to be near a fever pitch heading into next season. Walker’s return will be added to a core group returning that should include AJ Hoggard, Jaden Akins and Mady Sissoko.
Along with that group, Tom Izzo is adding a recruiting class that is ranked 3rd nationally by the 247 Sports Team Composite Rankings. 5-star big man Xavier Booker and 5-star PG Jeremy Fears are expected to make an immediate impact while 4-star forwards Coen Carr and Gehrig Normand should factor in somewhere.
