Up 14-0 on Maryland, Ohio State went for an onside kick and it worked perfectly

Ohio State was supposed to crush Maryland Saturday. And in the first quarter, that thought was validated.
The Buckeyes led 14-0 and were ready to kick the ball off to the Terrapins. Except, they didn’t. They went for an onside kick instead.

You may be thinking, why in the world would Ohio State do that?
Well, if it works as perfectly as it ended up being, the question may be, why not?

This kick was just perfect. And honestly, how in the world would Maryland have seen this coming? If there was a moment in which a coach did not tell his special teams unit to watch for an onside kick, it would be here.
Ohio State kicked it perfectly to wide receiver Chris Olave, who, has proven that he can catch a football. If the Buckeyes ever truly need an onside kick in order to win a football game, they know what to do.
Ohio State went on to score again on a four-yard TD pass to K.J. Hill.
