Kendall Sheffield was hoping to raise some eyebrows at the NFL Combine, but his time in Indianapolis was unfortunately cut short.
The former Ohio State star was injured while doing the bench press on Sunday. He screamed out in pain on his seventh repetition and was holding his left pectoral muscle after getting up from the drill.
Sheffield updated his status on Monday, telling NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones that he has a partially torn left pec. He was in a sling in Indianapolis on Monday, but the injury will not require surgery.
Ohio State CB Kendall Sheffield tells me he has partially torn left pec. Surgery not needed. He’s in a sling but is here on the floor, supporting his fellow CBs. Good job by him doing that.

The injury will keep Sheffield from attempting the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, which is a major disappointment for the cornerback. The former Buckeye was expected to be one of the fastest — if not the fastest — player in attendance.
According to Josina Anderson, the news was especially hard because Sheffield had been clocked in the 4.2 range for his 40 time.
I'm told as of now, a preliminary ultrasound shows a partial tear in Ohio St CB Kendall Sheffield's pectoral muscle. However, the plan is to have a follow up MRI in Houston. Sheffield is very disappointed bc he was clocking high 4.2s in the 40 in pre-combine training, per source.

Sheffield was scheduled to meet with reporters on Sunday in the afternoon, but missed his chance to talk with the media due to the injury. He’s scheduled to have a follow up MRI for the injury.
Last season, Sheffield totaled 35 tackles, eight pass break-ups and two interceptions with Ohio State.
