Through two weeks of action, Ohio State has pretty much cemented its role as the Big Ten’s top dog.
Based on some math, the Buckeyes might not just be the top team in the conference, but the top team in the nation.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Bill Connelly updated the SP+ rankings following the B1G’s Week 2. Five Big Ten teams cracked the top 25, including Ohio State. The Buckeyes sit in the top spot again this week.
NEW SP+ RANKINGS
* Unbeaten Ohio State remains No. 1
* Top-10 Cincy
* Okla State moves up after a strong [checks notes] loss
* Georgia = Florida
* WHY DOES SP+ HATE WAKE FOREST('S OFFENSE)?https://t.co/Lx4J0EQ0Ye— Bill Connelly (@ESPN_BillC) November 1, 2020
Ohio State sits more than 3 points ahead of No. 2 Alabama. That is a pretty wide gap. Wisconsin is the next highest rated team, sitting nearly three points behind the Crimson Tide.
Here are the five B1G teams in the SP+ top 25:
- No. 1 – Ohio State
- No. 3 – Wisconsin
- No. 8 – Penn State
- No. 16 – Michigan
- No. 25 – Indiana
Unlike the AP and coaches’ poll, Wisconsin was not penalized for missing its game this week against Nebraska. Penn State and Michigan still continue to stay high despite losses. Indiana is a slow riser in this ranking system.
