Urban Meyer knows all about the keys to getting a big-time rivalry win in The Game. More times than not, it’s the ground game that proves to be the difference between Ohio State and Michigan.

In a recent breakdown segment for the Big Ten Network, Meyer pointed out how the running game has dictated the rivalry for 21 straight seasons. That is potentially a good sign for the Buckeyes with TreVeyon Henderson healthy and playing well since returning from injury.

“Such a major factor in the rivalry game the last 21 years, you know who won the game? The team that ran for the most yards,” said Meyer. “So, they’re coming at the right time.”

One aspect Meyer particularly hammered home is Henderson’s development as a second-level runner. Meyer indicated Henderson previously was just an “okay” runner in the second level, but the former head coach now sees an “elite” playmaker who has developed his running to go with his track speed.

“TreVeyon, I always loved him as a player. He’s track speed, but his second-level running was just okay,” Meyer admitted. “Now he’s elite.”

In back-to-back losses against Michigan, it has been the Wolverines who rolled in the ground game. Can Henderson help the Buckeyes flip that script and get back in the win column for The Game?
