Urban Meyer has sung the praises of J.T. Barrett for a long time. There’s no doubt that the Ohio State head coach thinks the world of one of the B1G’s all-time greatest quarterbacks.
After the Buckeyes posted a 24-7 win over USC in the Cotton Bowl and Barrett became the B1G’s all-time leader in offensive production, Meyer was asked what Barrett meant to the program over the last five seasons. Not surprisingly, Meyer had some tremendous things to say.
“I love him. He’s a member of the Meyer family as I said many, many times,” Meyer said after the game. “But more importantly, he’s a legend at Ohio State. He’ll go down as one of the winningest quarterbacks ever to play here. He’ll go on his endeavors and do whatever he’s going to do. He has a home at Ohio State for the rest of his life.”
In Friday night’s Cotton Bowl, Barrett completed 11-of-17 passes for 114 yards and added 66 yards with his legs. He also had two rushing touchdowns in the victory.
Barrett broke dozens of records throughout his career and won 38 games as a starter for the Scarlet and Gray. He’s helped the Buckeyes reach two B1G Championship Games and a pair of College Football Playoff berths. But the one thing fans will likely remember most, is that he was a perfect 4-0 against Michigan.
Meyer has made it clear that Barrett’s legacy is one of the greatest in college football history. He’ll always be welcome inside the gates of Ohio Stadium.
