Urban Meyer may not be the man in charge at Ohio State any longer, but he’s still passing out orders to assistant coaches. It’s pretty straightforward, too.
During Ryan Day’s radio show on Wednesday on 97.1 The Fan, Jim Knowles was asked how quickly “The Game” was mentioned. The new Buckeyes defensive coordinator said the importance of the game came up later after the two got to know each other and discussed schematics, per The Columbus Dispatch.
However, Knowles said that a recent encounter with Meyer resulted in a pretty quick conversation about “the team up north” in their first-ever meeting.
Knowles said Meyer stopped by while in the facility over the weekend. That’s when Meyer gave his lone demand to the new DC in Columbus: “You better beat that team up north.”
Per Knowles, Meyer then walked out of the office and it was the end of the conversation.
Meyer was undefeated against Michigan during his time at Ohio State, posting a perfect 7-0 record. In 2021, the Wolverines got their first win of the series since 2011 with a 42-27 victory in Ann Arbor.
Whether he’s on the sideline or not, Meyer doesn’t want to see that result again. It’s safe to say that’s a pretty popular thought around Columbus, too.
