The wind was taken out of Nebraska’s sails last weekend. The Huskers blew a 17-point lead and lost to rival Colorado for the second-straight year. It was heartbreaking, to say the least.

But the good thing about losing to Colorado, if you want to put a positive spin on it, is that it’s not a conference opponent. Essentially, all of Nebraska’s goals are still right in front of it.

Despite the loss, Urban Meyer is still a big fan of Scott Frost and the Huskers and believes this team can still win the B1G West. It just may not be quite as easy as everyone once expected. Now, after such a tough loss, Meyer says this is where Frost and the team really earn their stripes.

“That was a terrible loss,” Meyer said on Big Ten Network. “I was one of the guys that thought Nebraska [would win the division], and I still think they can. They got very good players, I still love their quarterback — he hasn’t found his rhythm yet this year — the way they finished the season last year with the momentum, I think they’ve got a good staff, good players.

“We (Ohio State) lost early in 2014 in a terrible loss to Virginia Tech, and boy, you just gotta rally the troops. This is where Coach Frost and that staff and the leaders on the team gotta earn their stripes and keep swinging. That was a bad loss. But you know what? There’s a lot of football left. The most important games are still to come. I still got confidence that they’ll get that thing going.”

There was an awful lot of hype surrounding the Huskers in the offseason, with many people believing they’d run away with the West crown. Clearly, that won’t be the case.

But Nebraska is still good enough to win a division and compete for a B1G title. And if you don’t think so, just look at what Meyer’s Buckeyes did in 2014 after that loss to Virginia Tech.

Below is the full interview with Meyer, who talks Nebraska, Maryland and several other topics during his weekly appearance on BTN:
