The Ohio State family is mourning the tragic loss of Dwayne Haskins, who died early Saturday morning after being struck by a car in South Florida. Haskins played for the Buckeyes from 2016-to-2018 under former head coach Urban Meyer.
Meyer shared a public tribute on Twitter to his former quarterback.
Heartbroken to hear of the loss of Dwayne Haskins Jr. My thoughts and prayers go out to his incredible family. One of the greatest QB’s in Ohio State history, but an even better son, teammate, and friend. God Bless!! pic.twitter.com/lM9Z8LzMhe

Meyer also spoke with Bill Rabinowitz of The Columbus Dispatch. As some might remember, Haskins was Ohio State’s Plan B at quarterback in the class of 2016. Haskins was first committed to Maryland. When Tristen Wallace flipped his commitment from OSU to Oregon, Meyer’s staff turned its attention to flipping Haskins.
“He was the first one I called,” Meyer said. “The next day, I was on a plane to see him.”
Meyer told Rabinowitz he was blown away watching Haskins throw as a high school senior.
“I remember my comment when I watched him throw: That was the most talented quarterback I’ve ever seen at that age,” Meyer said.
That’s high praise from Meyer, who recruited many successful quarterbacks, including Heisman Trophy winners Tim Tebow, Cam Newton and Joe Burrow. More from Meyer on coaching Haskins can be found in Rabinowitz’s article here.
