Urban Meyer won 83 games at Ohio State. He won three B1G titles, beat Alabama and claimed a national title during his seven-year run in Columbus. But none of those games come in as Meyer’s favorite during his time in Columbus.
Meyer was one of several college football coaches to participate in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge this week, a golf outing in North Carolina. The retired head coach was asked about the most meaningful win of his career, and his answer didn’t involve any of the championship games he coached in.
Meyer, who had a long list of wins to choose from, said Ohio State’s 62-39 win over Michigan in Columbus ranks as the most meaningful.
“I would say this year’s rivalry game, the 62 points on ‘The Team Up North,'” Meyer said, according to Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade. “I have such respect for that rivalry. I grew up in Ohio. To be able to play that well in that game — our players played well — that’s something I’ll never forget.”
That victory secured another B1G East title for the Buckeyes, eventually leading to a conference title. Considering how poorly Ohio State played the week before against Maryland — along with Michigan’s 10-game winning streak — that might’ve been the most surprising outcome of Meyer’s tenure.
Meyer never lost a single game against Michigan, posting a perfect 7-0 record against the Wolverines. He was 83-9 in seven years as head coach.
