Urban Meyer set to announce retirement, Ryan Day will take over as head coach at Ohio State

Ohio State has announced that head coach Urban Meyer will announce his retirement at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon. He will be succeeded by offensive coordinator Ryan Day.
Meyer will retire following Ohio State’s appearance in the Rose Bowl Game against Washington on Jan. 1, 2019. The Buckeyes are coming off a 12-1 season and have claimed back-to-back B1G titles. They defeated Northwestern 45-24 in the B1G Championship Game on Saturday.
In seven seasons in Columbus, Meyer went 85-9 with a 54-4 mark in B1G play. He won three B1G titles and one national championship with Ohio State.
Prior to Ohio State, Meyer had stops at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida. In 17 years as a head coach, he posted a 186-32 record and won three national titles. He was also 11-3 in bowl games.
Day will take over responsibilities as Ohio State’s head coach, a role he got a taste of earlier this season while Meyer served a three-game suspension. The Buckeyes went 3-0 in games coached by Day, defeating Oregon State, Rutgers and TCU.
Day was in his second season with the program.
