Ohio State isn’t sure who will be under center or this weekend’s B1G Championship Game matchup against Wisconsin.
Sunday, head coach Urban Meyer said on the B1G Championship Game coaches’ teleconference that he wasn’t sure of J.T. Barrett’s status heading into Saturday after suffering a knee injury in Ann Arbor. He said he “won’t know for a couple days” whether Barrett will be ready to go.
Meyer also said “everything seems to be improving” but he’ll make a decision based on “what percentage of full speed” Barrett will be able to go.
Barrett was injured on the sideline of last weekend’s game against Michigan when he was allegedly hit in the knee by a camera man trying to squeeze through an opening between the quarterback, a bench and a cart, according to Barrett. He had to leave the game in the third quarter because of the injury. Understandably, Meyer was livid about the situation and claimed he would launch an “all out investigation” to find out who did it.
If Barrett is unable to go, it would be backup quarterback Dwayne Haskins taking the snaps for the Buckeyes in Indianapolis. Haskins — who worked in relief last Saturday — was 6-of-7 for 94 yards and also rushed three times for 24 yards. He fueled a scoring drive that gave Ohio State a 21-20 lead after trailing the Wolverines 20-14.
While Meyer is uncertain who will be under center for the Buckeyes, Barrett seems confident that he will be on the field.
“Yeah, I’ll play next week,” Barrett said following the win over Michigan.
Barrett has thrown for 2,728 yards and 33 touchdowns while completing 66.2 percent of his passes. He’s also rushed for 672 yards and nine touchdowns.
