The rumors of Urban Meyer returning to the field as a head coach in the future have been flying around since the day he decided to retire from Ohio State. Considering his age, speculation will continue to form over the coming weeks, months and years.
But, for right now, Meyer and his family are enjoying the retired life. At least that what he said during a radio appearance on 97.1 The Fan’s Carpenter & Rothman Show.
“We’re very happy,” Meyer said, according to Eleven Warriors. “Three months ago, I had a problem. What if I’m sitting here in October and I can’t stand what I’m doing? But I love what I’m doing. My family loves what I’m doing and those are really the only people who matter to me.”
Meyer’s name has been closely tied with several potential job openings this year. Most prominently, Meyer is speculated to be the top candidate if USC decides to move on from Clay Helton.
Another program mentioned among potential landing spots for Meyer has been Michigan. Even Vegas has provided odds on him becoming the next head coach of the Wolverines should Jim Harbaugh be terminated.
Meyer says that’s not happening.
“No, that’s not going to happen,” Meyer said. “That’s…that’s not going to happen.”
So, for right now, it appears that Meyer is satisfied in his analyst roles on Big Ten Network and FOX Sports. And if he does get back into coaching, it doesn’t sound like it will be at Michigan.
Not that it’s a surprise to anyone.
