Urban Meyer weighs in on how Ohio State measures up with Alabama

Urban Meyer thinks his former team is on the “level” of college football’s most dominant program.
No school has dominated college football quite like Alabama since Nick Saban’s arrival in 2007. Meyer himself won national titles at Florida (2008) and Ohio State (2014) during that time, but no program has come close to Alabama’s 6 BCS/College Football Playoff championships under Saban.
Even with Georgia being the defending national champion, the big question is always how teams stack up to Alabama. In his appearance on Don’t At Me with Dan Dakich, Meyer was asked if he thinks Ohio State is on Alabama’s “level” talent-wise.
“I do (think that). … I think they’re every bit on the talent level of Alabama right now,” Meyer said, per 247Sports.
While Meyer did address Ohio State and Alabama, he spent most of his answer adding to what he said about Ryan Day in his previous answer:
The one thing about Ryan too, funny story, he was in the NFL for two years. He got let go with he Eagles and he got let go in San Francisco and I remember I was talking to Gene Smith that I wanted to hire Ryan Day. He was a grad assistant for me at Florida. Tremendous coach. He said, ‘are you sure you want to hire Ryan Day? The last two jobs he struggled.’ I said that’s not Ryan Day.
We’re entering Year 4 of Day leading the post-Meyer era in Columbus. Meyer clearly thinks the Buckeyes have the right coach to stay on Alabama’s level in terms of talent.
