USC added another key piece to an already-elite recruiting class on Thursday afternoon.

The Trojans picked up a commitment from 4-star tight end Luke Wafle, who had offers from numerous top programs around the country. His offer list included Ohio State and Penn State, amongst others.

On3’s Hayes Fawcett shared the news of his commitment:

Wafle is a newest addition to USC’s recruiting class, which already ranked No. 1 in the nation per 247Sports Composite. The Trojans have been off to a fast start in this cycle and now have commitments from a whopping 30 high school recruits in this class. Twenty of those recruits have attained at least 4-star status as of publication.

Wafle is a significant pickup for USC on the defensive side of the ball. He’s the No. 55 overall player and the No. 6 edge rusher in this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Wafle attends Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey. He’s also the top-ranked player from the state of New Jersey in this cycle.

Time will tell if USC is ultimately able to hang on to the No. 1 class in this cycle through the Early Signing Period. Texas A&M, Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame and others may close in on USC’s ranking as they add more commits in the coming months.
