The 2027 recruiting cycle is in full swing as visits take place across the country and prospects narrow down their lists of preferred programs this spring.

And fresh off securing a landmark 2026 recruiting class, Lincoln Riley and USC appear primed to produce another top group in 2027, as they secured a commitment from 4-star cornerback Danny Lang on Wednesday according to 247Sports.

Lang is an important pledge for a multitude of reasons, but two aspects of his commitment stand out immediately.

The first is that the Trojans managed to keep a prized in-state prospect within the borders, something the program struggled to accomplish during the 2010s but has since emphasized. Lang being a Mater Dei product adds a bonus, as the prestigious high school program has long been a target for outsiders to hone in on.

And the second point revolves around the schools Lang chose USC over, as he was also considering Big Ten rivals Oregon and Ohio State in his top 3. Both of those programs have made a habit out of dipping into California when it comes to high school recruiting over the course of the past decade, making this another step in the right direction for Riley & Co.

Rated the No. 9 overall prospect in California and the No. 12 cornerback in the country according to 247Sports, Lang joins a 2027 class that already features six verbal commits for USC. Notably, IMG Academy product Aaryn Washington is another 4-star cornerback in the class.
