USC was supposed to get the most out of high-profile recruit Husan Longstreet when he arrived at the prestigious program to play quarterback.

Instead, Longstreet announced on Thursday night with a post on his Instagram account that he was heading to the transfer portal after just one season with the Trojans. He was the No. 44 overall recruit in the 2025 ESPN 300, so this wasn’t some longshot player who USC took a chance on who just happened to not work out in Los Angeles.

This was a quarterback talent that a lot was expected out of, but it didn’t materialize in his one season at USC and now he’s heading elsewhere for the 2026 season. Longstreet leaves USC after attempting all of 15 passes in 2025, completing 13 of them for 103 yards, 1 touchdown pass and 0 interceptions.

Making it sting for USC even a little more was that Longstreet was an area talent, being born in Corona, Calif., and coming down the road so to speak to a program where he was going to become a local legend. It didn’t happen, but Longstreet showed his appreciation for his brief time at USC in his Instagram post.

Longstreet wrote that he will “always cherish” the opportunity to represent USC as a hometown kid. He also wrote that the relationships he built at USC in such a short time “will stay with me forever.”

But Longstreet also wrote that he was “excited for what’s ahead.”

Now, the college football world just has to wait a little longer to find out where this supreme quarterback talent will end up for the 2026 season.
