Utah State coach Matt Wells on Camp Randall Stadium: I had never seen anything like it

The reputation that Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium has earned as one of the loudest venues in college football lives up to the hype, according to Utah State head coach Matt Wells.

Wells was the offensive coordinator for the Aggies the last time he visited Madison. In 2012, the Badgers snuck past Utah State in a 16-14 contest. Though Wells wanted to forget that game, there were a few memories that are still lasting.

“First, it was loud,” Wells told Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I vividly remember trying to write a mini-script for the next series, between the third and the fourth quarter,” he said. “But it was a little difficult in the (coaches’) box because I think it was moving. I had never seen anything like it. So the ‘Jump Around’ … it’s as advertised.”

Utah State is Wisconsin’s Week 1 opponent, making the trip to Madison on Friday, Sept. 1 for a nighttime showdown in Camp Randall Stadium. With the game serving as the season opener, Wells can fully expect the same type of atmosphere he experienced just a few years ago.

It’s also the 100-year anniversary of Camp Randall, which could mean an even louder crowd on Friday night.
