Utah unveiled “22 Forever” helmets that honored deceased players Aaron Lowe and Ty Jordan.

On Christmas 2020, Jordan died after he suffered an accidental self-inflicted gun shot wound. For Lowe, he passed away in September 2021 during a shooting at a party in Salt Lake City.

Jordan, the 2020 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, was a dynamic running back in his lone season at Utah. He rushed for 597 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2020. For Lowe, he appeared in 2 games at cornerback in 2021.

Both players wore No. 22 and will be honored together during the season. The hand-painted helmets will debut on Oct. 15 when Utah hosts USC. The helmets feature portraits on the 2 players with a black primary color underneath the uniformed players.

The 2 tragedies that happened 9 months apart from each other had a lasting impact on the program. Utah used the pain from losing 2 players to win the 2021 Pac-12 Championship. Utah came close to a Rose Bowl victory over Ohio State.

It will be another opportunity for the current Utah roster to honor 2 former players. In 2021, Utah honored Lowe and Jordan throughout the season and the new helmets will do the same in 2022.

When Utah starts the season  at Florida on Saturday, the 2 players will be remembered by the current roster. Utah hopes to compete for a national championship in 2022.
