Vegas Power Rankings for every B1G team entering Week 5
By Andrew Olson

College football rankings drive the conversation between games. The Coaches Poll, AP Poll and College Football Playoff selection committee rankings focus on the top 25 teams in the country. Las Vegas oddsmakers have power rankings for all 134 FBS teams.
Vegas rankings tend to differ from the traditional polls. The smartest folks in the desert are only concerned with how teams would fare against others on a neutral field, as opposed to the records, resumes and preseason rankings that influence top 25 polls.
Phil Steele, widely recognized as a leading college football expert, has connections to oddsmakers at the Las Vegas SuperBook and other casinos. Steele has published weekly in-season Vegas Power Ratings since his time at ESPN. He is independent these days but continues to publish the Vegas numbers in weekly updates on his website during the season.

Steele reminds fans that Vegas rankings do not always reflect prior results on the field. Michigan defeated USC in Week 4, but the Vegas Ratings have the Trojans higher. If the teams met in Week 5 on a neutral field, Lincon Riley’s squad would be favored. Nebraska is also rated above Illinois, despite the Illini’s win over the Huskers.
Here’s where all 18 B1G teams stand entering Week 5:
- No. 2 Ohio State (134.47 Vegas Rating)
- No. 6 Oregon (128.64)
- No. 9 Penn State (125.89)
