A Virginia wide receiver is heading to Penn State.

On Monday, 3-star receiver Tyler Johnson announced on Twitter that he has verbally committed to Penn State. His pledge puts the Nittany Lions at 12 commits for the 2022 recruiting cycle. They currently own the B1G’s third-best class, behind Ohio State and Rutgers.

“After good conversations with my family, I am excited to say I’ll be committing to PENN STATE UNIVERSITY,” Johnson wrote on Twitter. “Thank you Coach Franklin and the whole staff for giving me the opportunity to play at a great program!”

Johnson is listed as a 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver out of Ridgeway, Virginia. According to 247Sports, Johnson averaged 33 yards per catch during his junior season at Magna Vista for the 2021 spring campaign.

247Sports has Johnson listed as a 3-star receiver, ranking as the No. 95 player at his position and one of the Top 25 prospects out of Virginia. He picked Penn State over offers from Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Purdue, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest at the Power 5 level.

Johnson took an official visit to Penn State over the weekend.
