Maryland found a unique way to let one of its walk-ons know that he is now on scholarship.
The Terps were in Baltimore tonight to attend the Ravens’ preseason opener vs. the Saints.
Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was interviewed down on the field during the game, and dropped a bombshell: his teammate, Challen Faamatau, is now on scholarship.

Faamatau is a running back who appeared in four of Maryland’s five games last season. He recorded 12 all purpose yards in a game against Indiana last season, and also returned a kick off vs. Northwestern.
Like Tagovailoa, Faamatau is from Hawaii. He’s entering his second season with the Terps after transferring from Coffeyville Community College.
This comes on the heels of a great practice for the Terps — a workout that coach Mike Locksley called “competitive” when addressing his team on Saturday afternoon.
Maryland is hoping to make its first bowl game since 2016.
