In the immediate aftermath of Saturday night’s 31-16 victory over Ohio State, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield grabbed a Sooners’ flag and planted it at midfield of Ohio Stadium.
The moment was clearly an emotional one for the potential Heisman Trophy finalist, and is something that angered many Ohio State players and fans.
On Monday, Mayfield apologized for his actions, saying emotion got the better of him and adding that he didn’t mean it as a sign of disrespect to coach Urban Meyer or any of the Ohio State players:

Indeed, Mayfield’s emotions should be taken as a compliment, as no one is planting any flags at midfield after wins over teams like UTEP (who the Sooners beat in Week 1).
No, the reason Mayfield was so fired up on Saturday is because he knows how good the Buckeyes are and how big of a win it was for the Sooners.
Even with the loss, the Buckeyes could still challenge for a spot in the College Football Playoff, especially if they win the Big Ten title.
If the Sooners can also make the final four, it’d be exciting to see the two talented squads meet up once again.
