Iowa needed a quarter and a half, but it was finally able to reach the end zone.

Midway through the second quarter of Iowa’s season opener against Miami (OH), the Hawkeyes were knocking on the door of scoring their first touchdown of the game. Trailing 7-3 at the 9-yard line, Stanley fired a pass high into the air aimed at Brandon Smith.

Smith used his size and outstretched the defender to haul in the pass, get a foot into the end zone and secure the touchdown snag. It was the first touchdown of the new season for Iowa.

Iowa got off to a sluggish start offensively, so we’ll see if it can get into a rhythm now that it’s finally gotten across the goal line.

The Hawkeyes took a 10-7 advantage with that touchdown.

With so much talent at tight end and receiver departed from last year’s team, Smith is expected to have a much larger role in the passing attack this fall.
