WATCH: Botched FG attempt goes horribly wrong for Michigan State

Michigan State had a rough time trying to pull off this field goal attempt.

In a weird turn of events to end the first half, the Spartans found themselves deep inside Rutgers territory following a muffed punt by the Scarlet Knights. Though Michigan State was unable to score a touchdown, there was enough time to attempt what should have been a chip shot field goal.

Unfortunately, quarterback and holder Brian Lewerke could not handle the snap. His bobble threw off the timing and left the kicker helpless on the play.

Following the botched attempt, Lewerke tried to make something happen by scrambling. He then decided to throw a pass, but that just made matters worse.

Lewerke’s pass was easily intercepted and looked like it may have been returned all the way for a touchdown. Fortunately, Michigan State was able to track down the defender and prevent the play from getting even worse.
