WATCH: BTN’s James Laurinaitis weighs in on Urban Meyer’s retirement

The news that Urban Meyer would be stepping down as Ohio State’s head coach took everyone by surprise on Tuesday morning. Maybe not by the decision to retire from the job, but at the suddenness of the announcement.

Ohio State is coming off a win in the B1G Championship Game, it’s third victory in that game under Meyer. The Buckeyes are headed to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 2009 and notched another 11-win season.

Nobody really expected to wake up to the news on Tuesday morning.

That includes BTN analyst and former Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis, who said he was surprised by the timing.

Laurinaitis weighed in on Meyer’s decision, saying that he believes the head coach wants to spend more time with family and has seemed more emotional really. He also thinks Meyer leaves behind  a tremendous legacy in Columbus.
