Every year there are comments about the SEC’s weak non-conference schedule. Sometimes it’s a valid argument, sometimes people just like to bicker about things.
But LSU head coach Ed Orgeron embraces all the jabs about a weak non-conference schedule.
During a recent speaking engagement, Orgeron was asked a question about having a person on staff who makes $500,000 to “schedule cupcake” games outside the SEC. Rather than argue about it, Orgeron decided to have a little fun with the question.
His response drew a pretty big laugh. Below is the clip with Orgeron’s response.
Don't come at Coach O with that weak sauce, he's feeling it man! #LSU@LSUfootball @Coach_EdOrgeron

The SEC gets a lot of heat for only playing eight conference games and having several FCS opponents in the non-conference slate. Every November, there’s even a week labeled “cupcake” week for the conference.
LSU’s non-conference schedule isn’t the toughest this season, with games against Georgia Southern, Northwestern State and Utah State. The Tigers do, however, travel to Austin to take on Texas.
There are also future games against Texas, UCLA, Oklahoma, Clemson and Arizona State on the docket.
While those other three games are relatively soft opponents and you could probably go ahead and Sharpie those in as wins, LSU has at least made an effort to get one Power Five opponent on the slate each year.
