Two of the best receivers in Maryland’s history are now sharing a field together. Torrey Smith and D.J. Moore enter the 2019 season as members of the Carolina Panthers.
While they went to the same university and are now on the same team, there’s still some competition between the two. When it comes to their college days, both believe they had the best career.
Smith and Moore had a brief (fun) argument about which receiver had the better career at Maryland. Smith says his team was better and he’s the better player, while Moore says he did a lot more during his career than Smith.
Here’s a quick look at the numbers for both Smith and Moore:
- Smith: 152 catches; 2,215 yards; 19 touchdowns (38 games)
- Moore: 146 catches; 2,027 yards; 17 touchdowns (36 games)
Smith did post higher totals in all three major statistical categories, though he did play in two more career games than Moore. Still, those are pretty close in all areas.

In Smith’s three seasons, the Terrapins won 19 games, and in Moore’s three years, they won just 13. So Smith gets that nod, too.
Below is the video of the brief exchange on Twitter. Who do you think had the better Maryland career?

Who’s career was better?
My career was better than his and we were a better team so he loses 🤷🏿♂️ pic.twitter.com/amsmuDDzj2— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) August 21, 2019
