Tuesday night was the big reveal for Minnesota.
The Gophers tweeted out a picture of the new helmets the team will be wearing for Saturday’s game against Middle Tennessee at TCF Bank Stadium. But why did Minnesota add an image of its mascot’s face to the helmet? And why will the team wear the new lid this week?
It’s Goldy’s birthday, of course.
Minnesota’s new look is the mascot’s birthday “gift.” P.J. Fleck and the Gophers presented Goldy with the gift, followed by some singing and celebrating.

While a new helmet is nice, Goldy would probably appreciate a win on Saturday over Middle Tennessee even more.
The Gophers are scheduled to play the Blue Raiders at 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be aired on BTN.
