Indiana opened the 2018 season with an impressive road victory, knocking off FIU 38-28 to start the campaign 1-0. But the win itself might not have been the best thing from the Hoosiers’ trip down to Florida.
After the victory, head coach Tom Allen quieted the rowdy and excited group to award the game ball to someone in the locker room. But it wasn’t a player who receiver the honor.
Instead, Allen presented the ball to Matt Stauder, a team manager who is currently battling cancer. The night of Indiana’s victory also marked the one-year anniversary of the death of his father.
Stauder has wanted to be around the Indiana football program through all of the trying times and for his commitment and dedication to the team, Allen awarded him with the game ball.
