Grant Newsome won’t be playing in 2017. A gruesome knee injury that he suffered last October in Michigan’s game against Wisconsin cost the offensive lineman a season-and-a-half with the Wolverines.

But it could’ve cost him a lot more.

Newsome was in the hospital for 40 days and needed six surgeries to repair his knee. He said he was just minutes from having part of his leg amputated because of the injury. So to see Newsome back on the field rehabbing, even it means he won’t be playing this fall, is a good sign.

Jim Harbaugh caught the offensive lineman rehabbing in Michigan Stadium on Tuesday morning and wanted to share the inspiring story with Twitter. So, that’s exactly what he did:

Though the knee injury was devastating to Newsome, he still expects to return to the field in 2018.

In a response thanking his head coach, Newsome seems prepared for the start of the 2018 season. It’s good to see the lineman working towards a return.
