Saturday was a rare day for Purdue fans. Though it might’ve been painful to admit, the Boilermakers were rooting for Indiana.

Why? The Hoosiers were hosting No. 6 Michigan State, who was tied with Purdue atop the B1G standings entering the day, both sitting 14-3. A Spartans loss and a Boilers win means Purdue is alone at No. 1 in the conference with one week remaining.

Indiana took care of business and knocked off Michigan State just as the starting lineups were being announced before the Ohio State-Purdue game at Mackey Arena.

Fans didn’t explode with excitement, but you could tell that there was still plenty of joy that Purdue had the chance to claim first place by itself with a win over the Buckeyes.

Most days, Purdue fans are adamantly rooting against the Hoosiers. But Saturday was an exception, and it paid off for the Boilers.
